I had sent a few days ago to the office of Ohio State Senator Sherrod Brown, an email stating NO to CAP & TAX. It was a well written email saying clearly NO!!!! This is the response I get.

Thank you for sharing your views about clean energy legislation.

Effective clean energy legislation will reduce climate pollution and promote the production of renewable energy—but most importantly it will ensure the creation of new clean energy jobs and industries. Clean energy legislation must also ensure the competitiveness of domestic manufacturers and protect consumers by keeping utility rates affordable. We must work to reduce our dependence on foreign oil by making America a global leader in clean energy manufacturing.

For this reason, I recently announced legislation called the Investments for Manufacturing Progress and Clean Technology (IMPACT) Act. This legislation, which was included in the House energy bill, would support manufacturers' transition to the clean energy economy and ensure clean energy jobs are created here in the U.S. This legislation would create a revolving loan fund for small and medium size manufacturers to retool and expand facilities to produce clean energy technology and energy efficient products. It is estimated this measure will create hundreds of thousands of new jobs.

Any clean energy legislation must also prevent the serious problem of carbon leakage, which can undermine our clean energy goals. If American manufacturers are forced to move operations overseas, we would not only lose jobs but would also see the counterproductive “export” of carbon beyond our borders. To protect against the threat of carbon leakage, I have proposed several provisions that will keep energy costs low and level the playing field for domestic energy-intensive manufacturers.

I appreciate hearing your input on this important topic. As clean energy legislation continues to be discussed in Congress, I will work to ensure that an unfair burden is not placed on Ohio families and businesses. I will only support legislation that creates new jobs and economic opportunities across Ohio.

Black Firefighters Can Sue

This is amazing. Now we have to have two different tests. One for whites with high standards and another with lower standards for all others. Don't you just love it!! I bet that if the whites scored lower, then it would be, "Oh well!" Maybe others did not score well enough because they are not smart enough or didn't study long enough. WASHINGTON – The Supreme Court ruled Monday that a group of African Americans did not wait too long to sue Chicago over a hiring test they challenged as discriminatory, freeing them to collect a lower court judgment.

It is the second time in as many years that the high court has a 5-4 decision said New Haven, Conn., violated white firefighters' civil rights, throwing out an exam in which no African-Americans scored high enough to be promoted to lieutenant or captain.

In Monday's opinion, Justice Antonin Scalia wrote for the court that the applicants' lawsuit over a city of Chicago test used to weed out potential firefighter trainee applicants was not too late.

"Today, the Supreme Court affirmed that job-seekers should not be denied justice based on a technicality," said John Payton, president of the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc., who argued the case. "This victory goes well beyond the immediate results in Chicago. It should ensure that no other fire department or employer uses a discriminatory test, and LDF will go the extra mile to make sure that they do not."

Anyone who scored 64 or below was deemed not qualified. But the city set a second cutoff score of 89 points.

Officials told applicants who scored below 89 but above 64 that although they passed the test, they likely would not be hired because of the large number of people who scored 89 or above. The majority of those in the top-scoring group were white; only 11 percent were black.

People are supposed to sue within 300 days after an employment action they seek to challenge as unlawful.

The city says the clock started when it announced the use of the test scores on Jan. 26, 1996. The first lawsuit in the case was filed on March 31, 1997, 430 days after the city announced the results.

But the plaintiffs say a new act of discrimination also happened each time the scores were used in hiring firefighter trainees between May 1996 and October 2001.

A U.S. District judge agreed with the black applicants. After an eight-day trial, the federal judge ordered the city to hire 132 randomly selected African American applicants who scored above 64. The court also ordered the city to count up the backpay and divide it among the rest of the applicants.

The 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Chicago overturned that decision.

In Monday's high court ruling, Scalia said: "It may be true that the City's January 1996 decision to adopt the cutoff score (and to create a list of the applicants above it) gave rise to a freestanding disparate impact claim. ... But it does not follow that no new violation occurred — and no new claims could arise — when the City implemented that decision down the road. If petitioners could prove that the City 'used' the 'practice' that 'causes a disparate impact,' they could prevail."

City officials and business groups argue that the court's decision allowing the black firefighter lawsuit and judgment will cause a host of legal problems for them, including opening them to lawsuits claiming unintended discrimination "for practices they have used regularly for years."

"It is not our task to assess the consequences of each approach and adopt the one that produces the least mischief," Scalia wrote. "Our charge is to give effect to the law Congress enacted ... Congress allowed claims to be brought against an employer who uses a practice that causes disparate impact, whatever the employer's motive and whether or not he has employed the same practice in the past. If that effect was unintended, it is a problem for Congress, not one that federal courts can fix."

The case is Lewis v. Chicago, 08-974.

Cloning Food

I was not happy to find out that we may be consuming cloned products and the FDA is not going to make it official that manufactures must place labels specifing the product is cloned. I think I will now stick to all organic beef and stay away from corn product. I'll turn to wheat. I do not trust the government or anyone who approves of this. Very little research has been done on this and yet it is being approved. One kind of wonders what type of new diseases will be formed. Just think how rich the drug companies and the health insurances will become because of this. What a conspiracy theory this would make!

Cloning promises many benefits, not least through replicating embryonic stem cells, which may be used to repair and replace organs. Though this is a vexed issue politically, a bill currently under debate in the Senate would allow the use of "somatic cell nuclear transfer" (or cloning) in taking genetic information from human embryonic stem cells and implanting it in other cells for therapeutic purposes.
The same process, used for reproductive ends, results in cloned animals. Yet the outcomes aren't always as hoped. Consider Chance, a sweet, Ferdinand-like bull first reported on in This American Life, whose owner, distraught at the bull's death, had the animal cloned only to be gored by Second Chance. So it's fair to say that the cattle industry is on the horns of a dilemma, facing a reticent public, according to a 2006 poll by the industry-supported International Food Information Council (IFIC), which found that 59 percent of respondents wouldn't buy foods from cloned animals or their offspring even if the FDA said it was safe. Only 16 percent of U.S. adults hold a favorable impression of animal cloning. The industry has been careful to maintain a voluntary ban on selling cloned animal foods, though IFIC's website states that "cloning allows farmers and ranchers to reproduce the most productive, healthiest animals."
The voluntary moratorium on food from cloned animals still stands, but the day of its retirement may be fast approaching. Last December, FDA announced that its peer-reviewed risk assessment on the safety of meat and milk from cloned pigs, cattle and goats had determined that these foods were as safe as those from non-cloned animals and fit for human consumption. Due to lack of information, the FDA recommended against eating food products from sheep clones. Currently, the FDA is accepting public comments on their risk assessment, management plan and draft industry guidance and have extended the comment period by a month. Meanwhile, the European Union, recognizing that member countries may find themselves importing meat from cloned animals (or the descendents of those animals), have assigned the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) the task of determining not only the safety of food from cloned animals but what effect they might have on the environment.
With the public evidently concerned about cloned food, vocal criticisms of the FDA's report followed quickly. In late March, the non-profit Center for Food Safety (CFS) challenged the FDA's position, noting that there will be no labeling for food derived from clones and that cloning can result in the deaths of cows, high percentages of failed pregnancies and on-going health problems for the clone. While CFS also warns about the loss of genetic differences that may make more animals vulnerable to disease, Greg Jaffe, director of Center for Science in the Public Interest's biotechnology project, notes that since one bull may father a thousand calves, "we are currently really reducing the biodiversity of livestock." Jaffe suggests that cloning may even increase the biodiversity of cattle if genes that fight against bovine spongiform encephalopathy ("mad cow" disease) and other ailments can be spread to vulnerable animals.
In the pork industry, on the other hand, cloning may not even end up as much of an issue. "Cloning is extremely expensive compared to natural mating," says Mark Boggess, Ph.D., director of animal science at the National Pork Board, adding, "If you have a boar that you might want to clone, through our breeding programs that boar already has sons that are as good or better." Pigs have such a high reproductive rate over such a short interval, Boggess says the incentive is much less than in cattle.
Even with organic foods, there is a chance that cloning may be allowed, since other reproductive techniques such as in vitro fertilization are accepted by the USDA's National Organic Program. Cloning isn't explicitly forbidden under the USDA's organic standards and an advisory panel for the Department of Agriculture will consider the issue this spring.

Dallas Comes Away A Loser

I cannot believe Dallas lost after having a great season! As far as I am concerned, Dallas only beat themselves. Kind of reminds me of the Wolverines. Can't win when your receivers drop passes. One had a good chance to be a touchdown.

Romo needs to learn to throw the ball away if he is out of the pocket instead of getting sacked. Comes with experience I guess. Penalities don't help either. How disappointing this is to the fans! Oh well, I guess there is next year. Go San Diego!!

Someone needed to put them in their place. I did think that Chris Wells did a fantastic job for the Buckeyes and I'm looking forward in seeing him next year. I'm also looking forward seeing him play for the NFL! We need more runningbacks for fantasy football since many are getting to be over the hill or just plain overrated.
Now that a new coach is in store for the Wolverines, maybe they can defeat Ohio State in 2008. We''ll see.

Iowa Caucus

I can't believe Governor Huckabee actually won! What a turn of events. This election should be exciting, but I don't see him winning New Hampshire. I just don't want to see a religious movement moving into the Whitehouse! There is no room for State and Church. A disaster waiting to happen. This is what I want.

Stop the pork spending.

Do not raise taxes! Stop the spending and we will have money.

Fix social security! If I am contributing money for this, I had better see my money. Maybe a lawsuit would come in handy. Isn't that theft when you get right down to it.

Get out of the Middle East as soon as possible.

With all Democratic precincts reporting, Obama had the support of 38 percent of voters, compared to 30 percent for John Edwards and 29 percent for Hillary Clinton. "The numbers tell us this was a debate between change and experience, and change won," said CNN political analyst Bill Schneider.
Iowa delivered fatal blows to the campaigns of Sen. Chris Dodd of Connecticut and Sen. Joe Biden of Delaware. Both have decided to abandon their White House runs.
New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson, who finished fourth, said his campaign plans to "take the fight to New Hampshire.
New Hampshire holds the nation's first primary Tuesday. Clinton and Obama are in a statistical dead heat in New Hampshire, according to the latest CNN/WMUR poll.
On the GOP side, Sen. John McCain of Arizona, whose campaign was languishing six months ago, and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney are now tied for first place in New Hampshire, according to the poll, which was released Wednesday.
McCain left Iowa before caucus night even began. He was already in New Hampshire by Thursday afternoon, trying to get a jump on his rivals. For the winners of both party's caucuses in Iowa, it's an age revolt for Democrats versus a religious revolt for Republicans, Schneider said.

Among Democrats, Obama took 57 percent of the under-30 vote, according to CNN's analysis of entrance polls. Speaking to supporters, Obama called the night a "defining moment in history."
"You came together as Democrats, Republicans and independents to stand up and say that we are one nation, we are one people and our time for change has come.
Huckabee's victory can be attributed to his overwhelming support among evangelical voters and women, the polls indicate.
With 92 percent of Republican precincts reporting, Huckabee, former governor of Arkansas, had the support of 34 percent of voters, compared to 25 percent for Romney.

Fred Thompson had 13 percent, McCain had 13 percent and Ron Paul had 10 percent.
Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who has turned the focus of his campaign to the February 5 "Super Tuesday" primaries, trailed with 4 percent.
"We've paid a lot of attention to states that some other candidates haven't paid a lot of attention to," Giuliani said, adding, "Time will tell what the best strategy is."
Huckabee was vastly outspent by Romney, who poured millions of dollars into a sophisticated get-out-the-vote operation.
"People really are more important than the purse, and what a great lesson for America to learn," Huckabee said in thanking his supporters.
For most of 2007, Huckabee languished in the single digits in the polls and had very little success raising money. But his momentum picked up in the final six weeks of the year when social conservatives -- an important voting bloc in Iowa -- began to move his way.
"We won the silver ... You win the silver in one event. It doesn't mean you're not going to come back and win the gold in the final event, and that we are going to do," Romney said.
Clinton, speaking with 96 percent of the vote in, portrayed herself as the candidate who could bring about the change the voters want. "I am so ready for the rest of this campaign, and I am so ready to lead," she said.
Clinton had worked to convince Iowa caucus-goers she has the experience to enact change, while Edwards and Obama preached that she is too much of a Washington insider to bring change to the nation's capital.
Edwards, in a tight race for second, said Iowa's results show that "the status quo lost and change won."
"Now we move on ... to determine who is best suited to bring about the changes this country so desperately needs," he said.
McCain, who had largely abandoned Iowa to focus on the New Hampshire primary, said, "The lessons of tonight's election in Iowa are that one, you can't buy an election in Iowa; and two, that negative campaigns don't work."
With such a close race on both sides, voter turnout was key. The Iowa Democratic Party reported seeing record turnout. The party said there were at least 227,000 caucus attendees.
The Iowa GOP projected that 120,000 people took part in the Republican caucuses. The Iowa Democratic Party said 124,000 people participated in the 2004 caucuses, while the Republican Party of Iowa estimated that 87,000 people took part in the 2000 caucuses. (President Bush ran unchallenged for a second term in 2004.)

Asteroid Collison?

Astronomers have good news, better news and some bad news about an asteroid known as 2007 WD5. The good news is that this 164-ft.-wide chunk of speeding space rock, discovered in November in an ongoing search for potential threats to Earth, won't hit our planet any time in the foreseeable future. The better news — for eager space-watchers — is that the asteroid, currently about halfway between Earth and Mars, has a plausible chance of hitting the Red Planet at the end of January. If it does, astronomers will be treated to an unprecedented sight.

The event itself, however, will have plenty of precedent. The craters that pock the surface of Mars, the Moon, Mercury and other Solar System bodies come from about four billion years' worth of this sort of thing. Earth has had plenty of collisions too; it's just that erosion, continental drift and vegetation have erased or hidden most of them. Not all, though: Meteor Crater, in Arizona, was blasted out some 50,000 years ago by an asteroid about the same size as 2007 WD5. A much bigger object, a few miles across, is thought by many scientists to be the reason the dinosaurs died out some 65 million years ago.
If 2007 WD5 does smack into Mars, every telescope on Earth will be pointed in that direction — just as they were in 1994 when Comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 crashed into Jupiter. In that case, the comet broke up while it was still in orbit, so astronomers watched nearly two dozen individual impacts. But Jupiter is made mostly of thick clouds, so there was no lasting scar, and because it lies so far from Earth, the event wasn't quite as spectacular as this one promises to be. Asteroid 2007 WD5 should release some 3 megatons of energy if it slams into solid ground near Mars' equator, and orbiting satellites will show the aftermath with crystal clarity.
Finally, the bad news: 2007 WD5 has only a 1-in-75 chance of actually hitting Mars, which means astronomers would be wise to be pessimistic. But the possibility of impact calls to mind a loosely related incident that occurred almost exactly 100 years ago, when something exploded above the Tunguska region of Siberia, flattening trees in a 25-mile radius, their trunks pointing outward from the epicenter of the blast. Scientists are pretty sure it was a comet or asteroid — about the same size as 2007 WD5, as it happens — that disintegrated from its own shock wave as it plowed through the atmosphere. (UFO enthusiasts have long been convinced it was a flying saucer that somehow made it across trillions of miles of interstellar space safely, only to blow up above Russia.) The scientific explanation would account for the aerial explosion, and also the fact that no crater has been found.
Except that now maybe it has. An Italian team has measured seismic waves reflecting off a high-density spot in the bottom of the suspiciously crater-shaped Lake Cheko, which lies close to the event's ground zero. It could be a piece of the original object — and finding it could help investigators understand exactly what happened a century ago.
If they find a burned-out flying-saucer engine, all bets are off.

Following weeks of negotiation, President Bush signed into law Wednesday the first major increase in vehicle fuel efficiency standards in over three decades.
The law also calls for greater use of biofuels like ethanol and more energy-efficient homes and appliances - but left out some provisions called for by Congressional Democrats.
Automakers will have to make sure the average fuel efficiency level for all vehicles they sell in the U.S. is 35 miles per gallon by 2020, up from 25 miles per gallon currently.
"We make a major step... toward reducing our dependence on oil, fighting global climate change, expanding the production of renewable fuels and giving future generations... a nation that is stronger, cleaner and more secure," said Bush at a signing ceremony at the Energy Department.
The current fuel-economy standards of 27.5 mpg for passenger cars and 22.2 for light trucks were established in 1975. The new bill sets a single average standard for manufacturers.

Automakers had long resisted raising fuel economy standards, saying it would be a costly change that customers didn't want.
But opposition melted away in the last year of so, as high gasoline prices drove sales of foreign cars at the expense of domestic manufactures.
Environmental groups seemed happy with the law.
"This is an extraordinary change from just a little while ago," The Union of Concerned Scientists said in a statement. "Everyone from the auto lobby to one-time Congressional opponents have thrown their support behind it."
The law also requires refiners to replace 36 billion gallons of gasoline with biofuel by 2022. The U.S. currently consumes about 140 billion gallons of gas annually, and uses about 6 billion gallons of biofuel.
The mandate also says that no more than 15 billion gallons of biofuel can come from corn-based ethanol, in part due to concerns about food prices. The rest must come from "advanced biofuels," like ethanol made from switch grass or other biofuels.

But the bill left out two major provisions that Congressional Democrats had pushed for months - over $20 billion in funding for renewable energy, paid for largely by taxes on Big Oil, and a requirement that utilities buy 15 percent of their power from renewable sources.
Debate on the bill in both the House and Senate had been intense for the last few weeks. Ultimately, a likely filibuster from Senate Republicans and a veto threat from the White House left those measures out of the bill.
Critics of the tax provision said taxes on Big Oil would discourage domestic production, increasing costs for consumers.
Southeastern utilities said a federal law mandating the purchases of renewable energy would be an unfair burden on them, as their region has fewer renewable options like wind. About half the states have already passed such a requirement.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., said the Democrats would continue fighting for those measures, presumably after the holiday recess.
Even the measures signed into law Wednesday - raising vehicle fuel economy standards, home and appliance efficiency standards, and using more biofuels - were not without critics.
House opponents such as Rep. Joe Barton, R-Texas, complained that the bill will undo many of the efforts made to foster increased production of fossil fuels in an energy bill passed in 2005.
"I understand the consequences of elections. I understand there's a new majority," said Barton, the ranking Republican on the House Energy and Commerce Committee. "I do not understand how what made sense two years ago doesn't make sense today."
Barton called the bill a "no-energy" bill and "a recipe for recession," arguing that the conservation measures mandated by the bill would raise prices for fuel, homes and appliances for consumers.

This is absolutely astounding! I could not believe this when I saw the news this morning. The article I found is below.

A biologically rich coral island chain in the Pacific Ocean northwest of Hawaii, which President Bush designated as a marine national monument, is under assault from floating garbage ranging from plastic bottlecaps to baby diapers.
Hailed by environmentalists as one of the president's most enduring contributions to the environment, the Montana-sized monument includes uninhabited islands home to some 7,000 marine species, at least a quarter of which are found nowhere else on earth. But the new national monument also resides on the edge what marine scientists call the great "eastern garbage patch": a section of slowly rotating Pacific Ocean currents - or gyre - double the size of Texas that acts as a giant garbage collector.
Sitting between Hawaii and northern California, the patch's sluggish currents wash onto the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands Marine National Monument. That 1,200-mile-long island chain north of Kauai acts as the teeth of a giant comb, straining onto its otherwise pristine beaches and coral reefs floating trash, such as syringes, bags, six-pack rings, and tons of fishing nets and other gear.
Concern about the problem has risen to such a level that Congress has acted on it. On Sept. 27 the House passed a bill that would give a lift to struggling ad-hoc efforts to clear debris from the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands. Their move follows the Senate's approval of the legislation last year. Observers are optimistic that the bill will be finalized, and Mr. Bush will sign it into law after the November election.
It would not be a moment too soon, experts say. About 3 million tons of the trash floating in the garbage patch is plastic, estimates Charles Moore, founder of the Algalita Marine Research Foundation in Long Beach, Ca., who has traversed the gyre on research expeditions.

The pair of cats cloned from a mother's altered skin cell are nearly a year old. The researchers told the AFP that their work could help unravel mysteries of some 250 genetic diseases suffered by both humans and cats. The findings also could be used to clone endangered tigers, leopards, and other animals, the report said.
However, it's unlikely that such psychedelic-looking cats would come to pet stores anytime soon. Debates about the ethics and safety of concocting cloned and transgenic animals continue to rage.
Genetic Savings & Clone, which charged between $32,000 to $50,000 for cloning cats, shut shop last year. But Spot's or Mittens' genes can be banked in a cryogenic chamber for $1,500, and hypoallergenic kittens cost between $6,000 and $28,000. California officials in 2004 banned the sale of GloFish, the world's first transgenic pet.
British scientists injected jellyfish genes into chickens and pigs to make them glow several years ago. Last year, Taiwanese scientists said they also spawned glow-in-the-dark pigs.

Robotex is the brainchild of Terry Izumi, a reclusive filmmaker who comes from a long line of samurai warriors, has trained Secret Service agents, and worked both at DreamWorks (Charts) and in Disney's (Charts, Fortune 500) Imagineering division.
When Izumi decided to build a better war robot in 2005, he recruited Nathan Gettings, a former PayPal software engineer and founder of Palantir Technologies, who brought in his brother Adam as well as a fourth (silent) partner who hails from both PayPal and YouTube. They had a prototype in no time. But they needed a weapon, and that's how Jerry Baber, his revolutionary shotgun, and a pilotless mini-helicopter come into the picture.
Baber is the fast-talking, white-haired founder of Military Police Systems, an arms manufacturer and ammunition distributor based in the hills of eastern Tennessee. When his chums at Blackwater, the security contractor, told him that the Robotex guys were the real deal, he invited them for a visit.
"I called Nathan and Adam on a Monday, and on Thursday they were here," says Baber.
With that meeting, he turned a promising little robot into something both multifunctional and truly scary. His company's $8,000 Atchisson Assault-12 shotgun was fresh off the assembly line after a dozen years in development. It's made of aircraft-grade stainless steel, never needs lubrication or cleaning, and won't rust. Pour sand through it and it won't clog. It doesn't recoil, so it's accurate even when it's firing in automatic mode, which it does at a rate of 300 rounds per minute.
"It delivers the lead equivalent of 132 M16s," says Baber. "When they start firing from every direction, it's all over."
Is the military really ready to deploy robot soldiers?
And the AA-12 is versatile. Along with firing ridiculously powerful FRAG-12 ammo - a straight-out-of-Terminator shell that contains a whirling miniature grenade - the AA-12 can handle non-lethal Tasers and even bullets that are deadly up to 120 feet but fall harmlessly by 800 feet.
Limited-range bullets are important in urban combat situations, Baber explains, because once an insurgent gets between the robot and a soldier operating it on the ground, the bot is rendered useless - unless the soldier wants to shoot at himself.
Baber has paired the AH and its smaller sibling, the MH, with a remote-control mini-helicopter called the AutoCopter, which holds two AA-12s and can carry the bots into battle. His plan is to buy the robots from Robotex and the helicopter from Neural Robotics in Huntsville, Ala. Then he's going to arm them, resell the systems, and split the profits.
It's a classic Silicon Valley tale of a few engineers who do what they're best at, team up with some kindred spirits, and together build a product to take on the establishment.
The wild cards here, of course, are Beltway bureaucracy and public sentiment. Is the military really ready for low-cost killer robots? Are you?
At 72, Baber says he doesn't have a lot of time to wait to see his system deployed. And the next step is the toughest. "It's a bitch, let me tell you," he says of trying to sell innovative concepts into an entrenched government procurement system. But he has a plan.
First, the entire armory will go on display in Blackwater's lobby. That should get some attention. If not, he's counting on a public outcry.
"If moms and dads around the country find out this system is available while their sons are off sopping up bullets in Iraq, they're going to tear the White House down," he says. "This will take the soldiers out of harm's way."

Housing Slump

As the U.S. housing slump enters its third year, there is no sign of recovery anytime soon.
Standard & Poor's 15-member Supercomposite Homebuilding Index tumbled 62 percent this year as of yesterday, the largest drop since the benchmark was started in 1995. The companies have lost about $35 billion of market value.
The outlook is bleak with new home sales projected to fall 13 percent in 2008, according to estimates from the National Association of Realtors in Chicago, even as interest rates drop. Losses at Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the two biggest U.S. providers of mortgage financing, may restrict the availability of home loans, and chief executive officers at D.R. Horton Inc. and Centex Corp. expect another tough year.
``This looks like it's going to be the deepest correction of any housing correction since World War II, and the question really is, `What's the duration, how long will it be?'''
Centex CEO Timothy Eller said at a JPMorgan Chase & Co. conference in Las Vegas on Nov. 27. Many homebuilding executives at the conference said they expect the slump to last through 2008.
A housing rebound is unlikely, as about 1 million adjustable loans made to subprime borrowers, those with weak or incomplete credit histories, are scheduled to reset at a higher rate in 2008, according to RealtyTrac. That may put many homeowners at risk of foreclosure and lower the value of neighboring houses. About 1.3 million subprime mortgages will be in foreclosure by September 2009, including actions already under way, according to estimates from New York- based analysts at Credit Suisse Group. ``There is just no quick fix, including further rate cuts, to stabilize the current weakness in the housing market,'' said CreditSights analysts Frank Lee and Sarah Rowin in a Nov. 23 report to clients.
New York, Ohio and at least six other states are investigating the mortgage industry, including whether appraisers, mortgage brokers and lenders may have inflated home values. Resolving the complaints ``could run into the millions or billions'' of dollars, CreditSights's Lee said.
``There will be some bankruptcies, some consolidations, some private equity plays,'' said Kenneth Rosen, chairman of the University of California's Fisher School of Real Estate and Urban Economics in Berkeley. ``It's going to be another hard year.''

A Credit Suisse analyst hiked his price target on Google Inc. to $900, the highest among Wall Street analysts, on expected gains as advertisers move online to lure more consumers.
Credit Suisse's Heath P. Terry called Google the best Internet investment and expects the company to gain as all advertising goes digital.
"As Google has built up its online services, we believe the company has created a sustainable competitive lead in online search," Terry wrote in a client note.
Terry forecast sales growth of 35 percent and earnings growth of at least 30 percent over the next five years.
Terry expects growing numbers of consumers using broadband connections to boost demand for online advertising, as well.

If this holds true then Google will be pricier than Gold. This is mind boggling! I know, I am on the Google band wagon.

Christmas Tree Lighting at Rockefeller Center

Because revenues were below budget, projects have to be postponed. This is a good example of an entity with common sense. There is no mention of raising the tolls either. Maybe the city of Toledo and Lucas County entities should learn from this. If there is no money, you cut costs!

There is a huge rock near a gravel pit on Hwy. 25 in rural Iowa . For generations, kids have painted slogans, names, and obscenities on this rock, changing its character many times. A few months back, the rock received its latest paint job, and since then it has been left completely undisturbed. The artist is seen in the last pic. Enjoy!

2012 Olympic Stadium

London unveiled the 2012 Summer Olympic Stadium. The stadium will be located at Marshgate Lane in Stratford in the Lower Lea Valley and will be able to hold approximately 80,000 people. Land preparation for the stadium will begin in mid-2007, with construction beginning in mid-2008 and completion scheduled for mid-2011.

I went to the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. What an experience!

I understand that they take the jobs that Americans don't want. What about making the employers that hire them be responsible for making them legal. If caught not doing so, then they pay a hefty fine. Let the employer pay the application fee for each illegal and make sure each has to go through the proper channels like everyone else. I could live with that.

New York Governor Spitzer abandoned the idea, seeing that the New York State could not address the problems themselves. At least he tried. He said he wanted to act because of the failure of the federal government to deal with immigration policy and the impact that failure was having on New York.

I would like to hear some new ideas by other people who aren't politicians.

Crude Oil Down More Than $3

According to Bloomberg, crude oil fell more than $3 a barrel, the biggest decline in three months, after the International Energy Agency cut its forecast for global demand through 2008 as record prices curb fuel use.
The IEA said that consumption next year will average 87.69 million barrels a day, 300,000 barrels a day less than a previous estimate. Fourth-quarter use will be 500,000 barrels a day less than expected, the adviser to 26 oil-consuming nations said in a monthly report.
``The IEA report today had a sizable decline in demand expectations for this year,'' said James Ritterbusch, president of Ritterbusch & Associates, in Galena, Illinois. ``It looks like they were too optimistic about demand and didn't figure on the impact of high prices.''
Crude oil for December delivery fell $3.42, or 3.6 percent, to $91.20 a barrel at the 2:30 p.m. close of floor trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Prices are heading for the biggest drop since Aug. 6. Oil touched $90.13, the lowest since Oct. 31. Futures climbed to $98.62 on Nov. 7, the highest price since trading began in 1983. Oil is up 55 percent from a year ago.
A Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc. report on Nov. 9 said oil may test $100 today when options expire. An oil options contract gives a buyer the right to buy or sell a specific quantity of crude-oil by a specific date and at specified price.
``It looks like the market may have found a top,'' Ritterbusch said. ``It was widely anticipated that the crude- option expiration would facilitate a run on $100.''

It was also reported today that the oil market is being driven by speculation. No kidding! Right now the market is still volatile and oil could still see $100.00 a barrel. The consumers will still see an increase at the pumps by about 20-30 cents. The price has not caught up to the market yet.

Bad Day for Lions, Cleveland Came Close

Detroit did not look good at all today! The defense looked better than the offense at least. I think Arizona was on a mission, considering their season is in a hole.

Calvin Johnson was not even a factor and Kevin Jones was held in check on his running game,even though he scored a rushing touchdown. Oh well, there is always next week.

Cleveland almost pulled the game out! They need a kicker with a stronger leg in my opinion. They looked good against Pittsburgh's defense. Be proud Brownies, you did good!

I've been playing this internet game for the last couple of weeks. It's called America's Army. The game is a recruiting tool that the Army uses and has become a hit all over the world. The graphics are outstanding and is so life like as far as weaponry is concerned.

Drug-tainted toys put kids in comas
Millions of Chinese-made toys have been pulled off shelves in North America and Australia after scientists found they contain a chemical that converts into a powerful "date rape" drug when ingested. Two children in the U.S. and three in Australia were hospitalized after swallowing the beads -- marketed as Aqua Dots in the United States.
The toy beads are sold in general merchandise stores and over the Internet for use in arts and crafts projects. They can be arranged into designs and fused together when sprayed with water.
Scientists say a chemical coating on the beads, when ingested, metabolizes into the so-called date rape drug gamma hydroxy butyrate. When eaten, the compound - made from common and easily available ingredients - can induce unconsciousness, seizures, drowsiness, coma and death.
Naren Gunja from Australia's Poisons Information Center said the drug's effect on children was "quite serious ... and potentially life-threatening."
The recall was announced by the Consumer Product Safety Commission on Wednesday several hours after published reports about the recall in Australia.
The two U.S. children who swallowed Aqua Dot beads went into nonresponsive comas, commission spokesman Scott Wolfson said Wednesday afternoon.

Maybe it is time to stop buying Chinese goods. Thank you NAFTA! I wonder what else will be dicovered.

It never stops amazing me how hidden agendas are placed into bills. For once it would be nice if our beloved elected officials would think of our country and not their own agendas. Hopefully, Chrysler will start to design a more fuel efficient car which would help their bottom line. Considering what is going on in the markets (oil at 95.00), new design would be a good idea. Maybe then everyone would be hired back.

Oil Out Of Control

It is predicted that crude oil at the end of the year will be priced at 125.00 a barrel. Incredible! It is also predicted that gas will be at 4.00 a gallon. Good luck to the low income people who are having a hard time making ends meet as it is. To bad this side of the country snows, I would ride my motorcycle all the time. I would even consider riding my bicycle to work.

Changing America

Why is it, that when people move to America, they find it necessary to change what this country stands for. Our money has changed, you see different languages on labels. Oh, don't forget about prayer in schools.
I don't see someone moving to France and trying to change their ways and what language they speak. When one comes to this country, one should learn English. I remember living in L.A. and finding that the Japanese telling their kids to speak English outside the home and their own language in the home. I think that shows great respect for this country and respect for the Americans who were born here. I know that if I went over seas, I would try and learn even if it meant buying a conversion dictionary.
To much politics in this country for me. The people need to start taking this country back from the politicians and lawyers.
